Neighborhood
Ascott Huaihai is located in the luxurious and central district of Huangpu. It is the most important district for all tourist related activities and makes up a huge part of the core of the city, along with Jing'an District. Residents enjoy easy access to major sites, international services, nightlife hotspots, as well as to a wide range of high-end venues.

Due to a series of mergers – the absorption of Nanshi District in 2000 and of Luwan District in 2011 – Huangpu today covers a wide expanse of central Shanghai west of the Huangpu River. Despite the mergers, the previous Old Huangpu, Nanshi, and Luwan areas still retain their distinct characteristics. Pre-merger Huangpu was a major commercial center, covering the Bund, East Nanjing Road, and People’s Square. Nanshi covered the ‘Old City’ area, including Yuyuan Garden. And Luwan was home to the charming Former French Concession area and Middle Huaihai Road.

Shopping is extremely convenient as the district is home to the city’s two longest and most important commercial streets: Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road. Likewise, the area’s varied areas, which range from impressive Western architectural examples on the Bund to classical ‘Shikumen’ buildings (or, stone-gate buildings), mean that there truly is something for everyone. Aside from tourist attractions, Huangpu District includes several nightlife hotspots, major museums, shopping centers, and tree-lined boulevards.

Huangpu Districts borders both Huangpu River and Suzhou River. It offers easy access to Pudong District via a number of bridges and tunnels. It includes three major expressways: Inner Ring Elevated Road, North-South Elevated Road, and Yan’an Elevated Road. As a central district, the area is well supported by the city’s expansive metro system, and some areas can be even be reached by bike or on foot.
